The Gold Star Network (GSN) now has HIV/AIDS hotlines based at the secretariat and manned by a pool of professional counsellors. Through the GSN hotline, callers will be provided with HIV/AIDS related information, where to access GSN services and counseling services. User will call the dedicated hotlines 282 4314 / 282 4313 or 0721 836 557 to get accurate information on HIV transmission, ART and HIV related issues. The safaricom line can also be used for sms services. Toll free numbers 0800 are currenlty under application. Callers who may need one-on-one counseling will also be referred to the GSN psychosocial support centers available in Nairobi, Mombasa and Nakuru. The hotline counsellors are available Monday to Friday, 8.00am - 5.00pm for the time being, plans to extend the time and days to cover weekends are underway.
Specifically the support center:

Provides clients with information on HIV/AIDS and its management counsels for risk reduction and promotes the proper use of condoms

Reinforces positive behavior change and development of new skills to reduce vulnerability and risky behavior

Counsels clients to disclose their status to partners and members of their families

Counsels clients to access family HIV testing and enrollment into care for those infected

Provides issue-based HIV counseling that promotes adequate nutrition, preventive therapies and adherence to treatment

Trouble-shoot s HIV/AIDS care and treatment issues that are of immediate concern to the client

Counsels clients on contraception and fertility options Assists in tracking referrals and following-up clients defaulting on treatment and returning them to care

Provides information about GSN services, products and upcoming events to Network providers

Receives, documents and forwards Network provider enquiries and issues to be addressed by Network mentors and consultants

Facilitates linkage of Network providers with clients, mentors and consultants
